Tea in the Gardens
with author Gwen Lamont
Gwen Lamont’s memoir The View From Coffin Ridge: A Childhood Exhumed recounts an amazing story. For over thirty years, the memories of her childhood were buried. Gwen had told no one of her chaotic, poor family. No one knew she had been a child bride, or of her brush with death at the hands of a man who claimed to love her. Her memoir revealed those memories.
Subsequent to the book’s release in spring of 2024, audiences have flocked to over 24 author events across Ontario. In April Gwen will travel to Vancouver Island for three additional engagements.
In addition, Gwen has had numerous speaking engagements related to intimate partner violence and the importance of mentorship. The impact of her message on individuals and communities has exceeded her wildest dreams.
On June 20th, join Gwen as she shares her journey writing the book and getting it out into the world. Following a reading from her memoir Gwen will participate in a question and answer period with the audience.

“Gold of Another Kind - The Lost Legacy of Georgian Bay”
Governor General’s Literary Award nominee Allen Smutylo, will speak on his new book, Gold of Another Kind – The Lost Legacy of Georgian Bay.
This story is a historical, as well as a personal account of the once staggering quality and quantity of fur bearing animals, virgin timber and fish that once thrived in Georgian Bay waters and vicinity. Beginning in the 1600s, European settlers plundered the bay’s natural resources on a scale that would rival the voracity of any gold rush. Allen’s storytelling and art captures a time past.
